It's not too hot, but you do get a mouthful that builds up, causing a slight numbness. Sichuan pepper is commonly used in meat dishes, poultry, fish, soups, vegetable sauces, pickles and marinades. It is also a key ingredient in the 5 Spice Mix. It is recommended to lightly heat the seeds and then crush them before adding them to the food, as this way they give all their unique aroma and taste.
