Mate tea is made from the yerba plant (pronounced 'yehr-bah mah-the,') a tree native to South America similar to the tea plant. It is not strictly considered "tea" as it does not come from the tea plant, Camelia Sinensis, but it has similar benefits to tea, as it is just as high in antioxidants and contains caffeine.
