It is an herb which, although it has been used therapeutically for many years, became particularly well known by the Austrian botanist Maria Treben, who made a special reference to the properties of willow. Perhaps the most important property of the herb is its action against prostate hyperplasia and its strong anti-inflammatory action. The herb also contains flavonoids and has antimicrobial, astringent and antibacterial properties. In addition to prostate problems, it is used in cases of cystitis and nephritis. The decoction of the herb cleans the urinary system and treats cases of infection. It also helps with incontinence in men and women and is beneficial in diarrhoea.
To prepare an infusion of willow, pour a teaspoon of the dried herb into a cup of boiling water and leave it for 10 minutes.
