Herbal tinctures are made by steeping an herb in an alcoholic solution (usually pure alcohol) for a period of 4-6 weeks. During this, the active ingredients of the herb dissolve in the alcoholic solution resulting in the tincture being created. Tinctures are much more active than infusions and decoctions.

Calendula (Calendula arvensis) tincture contains the same active ingredients as the dried Calendula herb. In modern herbal medicine, Calendula is used "internally" (drink) to treat ulcers and painful menstruation and "externally" (compress) to treat wounds, burns and insect bites. Calendula is considered to be an excellent herb for ulcers, gastritis and gastrointestinal tract infections. It is also thought to act as a digestive. At the same time, Calendula has a reputation for being effective in severe pain and period cramps. It is claimed that its effectiveness is probably due to the fact that it has antispasmodic properties.

When Calendula is used topically, then its properties – as described by many herbalists – are truly impressive. Calendula is considered to have wonderful healing properties, which are based on its antiseptic and antibacterial action. Thus, Calendula is recommended by Herbalists for the treatment of acne, phlebitis, eczema and moles.

Tinctures retain all the active ingredients of the herb, are particularly simple to take and completely natural. They are undoubtedly superior to dietary supplements in pill form, as they do not contain chemicals and preservatives and are absorbed much more efficiently by the body.

Herbal tinctures are very active and for this reason should be consumed according to their instructions. The usual dosage is 1ml (about 20 drops per day). They should not be consumed during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
