Cistus

Cistus is an evergreen shrub herb. It is native to the arid region of the Mediterranean. Plants growing in Mediterranean ecosystems endure multiple stressors and harsh conditions, such as drought, high sun exposure and high temperatures. Mediterranean plants produce high levels of polyphenols to protect them from these stressors. Cistus has the highest polyphenol content of any plant in Europe.

The traditional use of cistus has been mentioned for millennia. The Book of Genesis refers to the use of the cistus plant. Ancient traditional uses include cold treatment, coughing, menstrual problems and rheumatism. Cistus was used in ancient Greece as a wound healer and beauty product.  The herb Cistus incanus is rich in bioflavonoids and polyphenols.

Tea made from this oil can improve the symptoms of cold and flu in about 2 days after eating the first cup. Ladania is widely used to fight germs, viruses and fungi. It is used externally to cleanse the skin and improve eczema, acne and psoriasis. The oil also works well for the hygiene of the oral cavity. You can use it as a mouthwash. The activities of the herb significantly reduce the bacteria of the mouth and leave your mouth clean. Interestingly, recent studies show that cistus extract targets the protein forms of viruses, preventing the virus from sticking to host cells. This reduces the infection and reproductive capacity of the pathogen.
