Wormwood, or artemisia is a thorny, fragrant herb that appears all over Europe but is very beloved of the Greek botanical tradition, as in the healing practices of other peoples. Its phytochemical ingredients, as well as its bitter nature, make wormwood an excellent tonic herb, stimulant of the body and nerves and menstrual cycle. It stimulates the appetite and facilitates the digestion process, as it helps to secretion of digestive fluids, also stimulates the stomach. It helps digest fatty foods and is used as a decoction, not least for diabetes mellitus. Wormwood is traditionally used in the preparation of the alcoholic drink of absinthe. To prepare an infusion of wormwood, add a teaspoon of wormwood to a glass of boiling water and allow for 10-15 minutes for the infusion to take place.
