Dittany is a tender herb, very aromatic and therapeutic, growing wild on the mountaintops and gorges of the Cretan landscape. This shrub consists of woolly covered green-greyish leaves and small pink flowers. Because it can be found growing in Crete’s most isolated mountaintops, harvesting dittany is a difficult task.

Dittany has a plethora of pharmaceutical properties. Having been used in traditional Greek medicine for centuries, dittany is a very well known bitter tonic. It can stimulate the digestive system and has antispasmodic properties. It is a powerful analgesic, either for pain found on the digestive tract or for headaches and neuralgia. Due to its bitter profile and the photochemical compounds present in the herb, dittany can be used successfully as a Dittany has a plethora of pharmaceutical properties. To prepare a dittany tea, we add a teaspoon of dittany leaves in a cup of boiled water and we infuse for 10 minutes.
