Clove is a fragrant and strong flavored spice originating in India, Indonesia, Pakistan, and many African countries.
It is traditionally used to give flavor in red meats, curry, marinades, red sauce, syrup and sweets. It can be also sprinkled directly on top of freshly cut fruit such as apples and pears. Using whole clove buds is also great with any hot beverage and adding a few drops of lemon makes for a delicious drink.
Clove matches perfectly with cinnamon, allspice, vanilla, star anise, pepper, citrus fruit, and red wine.
Clove has been also traditionally used for its medicinal purposes. It contains eugenol and it is used as a natural painkiller. It also contains carminative, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties.
