Cardamom is used both in savory and sweet dishes. It has a unique, resinous aroma and flavor that slight resembles mint.
The small pod shaped spice is widely used in Indian cuisine, but it can also be found used in Scandinavian dishes like Christmas sweet bread (julekake). Cardamom is also added to coffee and tea and many chew on the whole pod like gum.
Medicinally, cardamom is used to fight off mouth and gum infections, to prevent and cure throat infections and for pulmonary congestion. It is also utilized for dissolving kidney and bladder stones.
